Join us to celebrate the release of a brand new graphic novel, THE COOL CODE, with the book's illustrator—and former Wild Rumpian!—the terrific SARAH MAI!
In an attempt to fit in, Zoey develops an app called the Cool Code with a cute llama avatar that will tell her everything from what to say to what to wear based on pop culture algorithms she’s uploaded. But when the app gives her ridiculous advice, awkwardness and hilarity ensues. With a few upgrades and a bit of debugging from the coding club, the app actually works—Zoey gets really popular—but gets her pulled in all kinds of directions, including away from her real friends. Life’s most complicated choices. . . is there a code for that?
Sarah will present a character drawing demonstration, share some process images from the creation of the book, and talk a little about how a graphic novel goes from script to book. There will also be some drawing worksheets to practice your own skills and share them with Sarah!
This event is free and open to the public. Seating will be available for those with accessibility needs and the event will take place inside the store. Masks will be required.
Following the event, Sarah Mai will be available to sign and personalize copies of The Cool Code. If you would prefer not to stay for the signing, you may pre-order copies that will be signed just prior to the event. Orders must be placed by noon on Friday, November 18th to guarantee pre-signing. Please note in your order that you would like the book signed and the names of those you would like it signed to (or simply write "signature only").
In this funny and heartfelt slice-of-life graphic novel for fans of Raina Telgemeier and Kayla Miller, when coding whiz Zoey goes from homeschooled to new school, she develops an app to help her make friends. Will the Cool Code help Zoey fit in? Or will it completely crash her social life?
