“Come, come, come my friends, let me spin, spin you a story.” While the night librarian spins a story, we step into an exquisite world full of color, life, and little critters. Oliver and Lora have created the best bedtime story full of remarkable illustrations that will have you wanting to close your eyes and imagine being in this cozy sphere. This is definitely one library you’ll be wanting to visit time and time again.

— Jess, Wild Rumpus

Oliver and Lora have created an homage to the ability of words to paint pictures in the imagination more powerful than anything the real world holds.
– School Library Journal

Snuggle up for a story that’s sure to captivate your senses!

There’s a special place deep in the heart of the wilderness where the creatures of the night gather—where everyone wants to go—where the Night Librarian spins a tale of mystery.

Fireflies, nighthawks, bats, mice, and brightly colored beetles make themselves comfortable on the forest floor as the Night Librarian transports them into the land of imagination with her silver silken stories. From feasts of tangy berries and salty seeds, to honey comb hives and whisker kisses, to the scent of evergreens, crashing waves of blue oceans, and echoing canyons, Carmen Oliver’s lyrical text and Miren Asiain Lora’s ethereal art is sure to evoke your senses and send you into dreamland to spin stories of your own.

This exquisite picture book, perfect for bedtime, envisions a night spent among nocturnal creatures in a truly unique library.
— BookPage

Oliver and Lora have created an homage to the ability of words to paint pictures in the imagination more powerful than anything the real world holds. Soft pastels indicating a forest setting just after sunset open this story. The Night Librarian spins from mere words wonderful pictures that the listeners can see (and which the illustrator majestically recreates across page after page) until it is time for parents to usher their sleepy children home for bedtime, for it’s almost sunrise. The story passes as dreams do—wisps are remembered, but far more is forgotten. In a glorious nighttime world that is the opposite of what most diurnal human children know, this book is really just an excuse to show off storytelling and see just how far the author and illustrator can take it.
— Kimberly Olson Fakih

"Young children ages five to nine will cherish this exquisitely illustrated picture book. The storyline is unique and the characters are precious, many of whom possess human-like features."
— San Francisco Book Review

"Gorgeously beautiful illustrations illuminate the setting of the sun, the dusk, the night. A soft luminous tale."
— Katrina Yurenka

"A lyrical ode to the power and magic of storytelling, readers and listeners will find themselves invited into an ethereal, crepuscular world full of nocturnal creatures as they prepare to hear a tale spun by the Night Librarian. Fittingly, the Night Librarian is a spider who “unravels the story threads” for the awaiting nighttime critters. Oliver’s text is soft and whimsical, painting images in the reader and listener’s minds-eye of feasting, dancing, and snuggling close at the end of a long day. Miren Asiain Lora’s illustrations perfectly compliment Oliver’s text, reflecting the softness of the language and creating a dreamy world for readers to get lost in. This story promises to become a bedtime favorite for the whole family to enjoy together."
— Children's Literature Reviews

"The watercolor illustrations are beautiful and mesh perfectly with the small amount of text to create the night time dreamlike atmosphere."
— Kiss the Book blog

"You will admire the writer-artist team who have created this mystical, ethereal book. The critters who find the forest library are overawed by the experience. You will be, too."
— Vermont Country Sampler
